Google suspends GMS licenses to all new models for the Turkish market
Google has announced that it will not issue a Google mobile service license for phones in the Turkish market. It is not only for Turkish phone manufacturers but for all Android phone manufacturers. This ban is not due to the recent China-US trade war, it is due to the option to select the default search engine in the phone. The application will not be available for sale on smartphones or existing stores. However, Google seems to be disrupting security updates for all phones in the Turkish market, which would be a different issue.
The problem started when the Russian search engine Yandex filed a complaint against Google, claiming that it was hijacking its position in the Google market.
Yandix said Google has removed the option to modify the default search engine.
Turkish authorities have fined $ 17.4 million, justifying Yandix. Google made some changes to it, but the Turkish authorities were not satisfied because consumers still could not change the default search engine. Authorities have fined 0.05% of daily global revenue for Google until the issue is resolved. The decision gave Google 60 days to resolve it.
Google also lobbied the Turkish competent authority to change its trade decision, but Turkish authorities have started to investigate another case of Google taking advantage of its position.
